Several years ago, a gentleman approached DMG to construct a model kit of Captain James Cook’s ENDEAVOUR. He had been given the kit and had a great fascination for the ship, but could never see himself making the model.
Russ agreed to construct the model for him as a spare time project, and in November 2003, the model was completed and presented to our client and now close friend. The model has been extensively modified during construction and completion as the kit which is some 20 years old was very inaccurate in detail. Karl Heinz Marquardt’s “Anatomy of the ship, Captain Cook’s ENDEAVOUR”, was heavily used as a basis for the modifications.
The model is now very close in representation to the replica ENDEAVOUR constructed in Western Australia and completed several years ago. The model was decked out in the bright colours which were believed to have adorned Cook’s vessel that charted the East Coast of Australia and New Zealand in the 1770’s.
The model is now the centrepiece of Michael’s collection of models, paintings and memorabilia and both he and DMG are delighted with the result.
