Following on from the construction of a second De Havilland MOSQUITO model for the OC of 87 SQN in Adelaide we received a call from him asking if we might be able to construct a model of the RAAF 460 SQN Avro Lancaster Bomber "G" for GEORGE. He wanted the model as he had been promoted and was tasked with establishing the new 460 SQN in Canberra which is now an imaging unit.
We set to work and purchased a 1:72 scale kit of the LANCASTER Mk III. The model was constructed in a similar way as the original MOSQUITO with blacked out cockpit and gear up and mounted on a clear acrylic stand. The model was built and painted and marked with reference photos we had of GEORGE in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra where the aircraft is now on permanent display. The model was completed and hand delivered to the new 460 SQN Headquarters in Russell Offices in Canberra. It takes price of place in the OC's office as a reminder of the origins of the wartime bomber squadron with a great history.
