After completing a 1:35 scale AP-3C ORION for TENIX AEROSPACE in 2006, we decided rather than waste the 1:72 scale kit of the P-3 we used to help design the large model, we would complete the small model for display.
The model is based on the HASEGAWA P-3C ORION kit. New aerials, FLIR system and wingtips were scratch built and moulded then added to the kit model. All the additional aerials were cut from styrene sheet and fitted around the aircraft.
Painted in overall mid grey with decals produced by us on our laser printer, the model is a smaller version of the one we built for BAE. The model was mounted on a clear acrylic stand and was used for several years as part of our trade exhibition. In 2010 the model was refurbished with new decals for a gentleman who purchased it as a graduation gift for his son who had qualified to fly RAAF ORIONs.
In 2010 we were commissioned to construct two more ORION models in 1:72 scale for Australian Aerospace. These models were for their corporate headquarters in Brisbane. They were both similar to the original model, however reflected even more changes done to the AP-3Cs and included new ECM fairings and CHAFF dispensers. Another model has now been completed and is on display at RAAF AMBERLEY.
