WEDGETAIL B-737

WEDGETAIL is the Royal Australian Air Forces Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft (AEW & C) Project which is underway at this time. The RAAF is purchasing 6 highly modified Boeing B-737 aircraft which has a MESA Side scanning RADAR fitted to the top of the aft fuselage. These aircraft will be based at RAAF WILLIAMTOWN near Newcastle with 2 aircraft permanently loaned to RAAF TINDAL in the Northern Territory. All 6 aircraft are attached to the newly re-commissioned number 2 SQN RAAF.

The first model was built as a pet project for PACIFIC 2004. We have since constructed two more models, one for presentation to an Air League Cadet by his Squadron, and another delivered to a collector in the US. The model is a modified Hobbycraft kit of the B-737 and modifications manufactured from styrene. The models were detailed and painted in 2 SQN markings using photos from the aircraft's visit to Australia in March 2005.
